Sometimes when you woke in the morning and see in the mirror, you will notice some dark shades around your eyes, which is dark circles. Dark circles are also known as dark rings or shadows. It is dark discoloration of the skin under the eye.  It ruined your beauty and makes you look tired, exhausted, unhealthy as well as older.

Here are some homemade tips to easily get rid of dark circles.



1. Raw Potatoes

Potatoes contains vital natural bleaching agent. Use raw potatoes as they help to lighten dark circles and reduce excess puffiness around the eyes.

Grate one potato and extract the juice. Soak the cotton ball in the juice and place over the closed eyes. Cover the whole dark circles and the eyes. Leave the cotton rest for 15 minutes and wash the eyes with cool water.

2. Cucumber

Cucumber is rich in antioxidants like vitexin, orientin and cucurbitacins which help to treat under eye dark circles. It has skin-lightening and mild astringent properties which help to treat raccoon eyes naturally. It relaxes your eyes as well due to its soothing and refreshing effect.

Cut the thick slices of cucumber and put it in the eyes. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash off with cool water. You can chill cucumber slices in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before using it.

3. Tea bag

Caffeine content in tea shrinks the blood vessels and reduces the fluid retention in the tissues around the eyes. It also stimulates blood circulation and antioxidants in it help to treat dark circles and reduce puffiness.

Put two used tea bags in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. Remove from the fridge and place them on your eyes for 15 minutes. Wash your face and pat dry. Repeat this daily. If you are using fresh tea bags, then steep them in water for few minutes before placing them in the refrigerator.

4. Almond oil

Almonds are rich in Vitamin E and can be used as an emollient. It is great ingredient for delicate skin around your eyes and help to fade the dark circles. It also makes the skin soft and supple.

Apply the almond oil over the dark circles and gently massage it. Leave it overnight and wash off with cold water next morning. Repeat this every night.

5. Tomato

Tomato naturally contains powerful bleaching properties which lighten skin very effectively. It contains phytochemical known as lycopene which protect the skin from damage and also revitalize the eye area.

Mix one tbsp. of tomato juice with one tbsp. of lemon juice. Apply the mixture around the eye area having dark circles. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water.



6. Rose water

Rose water contains antioxidant properties which strengthen the skin cells and rejuvenate the skin. This helps to get rid of the ugly dark circles. Due to its mild astringent properties, it also works well as a skin toner.

Soak the cotton eye pads in rose water and place it on your closed eyes. Leave for 15 minutes. Apply this twice daily.

7. Lemon juice

Lemon has bleaching properties which lighten the skin. Vitamin C contained in it helps to remove dark circles. It also has astringent which keeps skin smooth and wrinkle-free.  It detoxifies the pores as it contains citric acid and removes dead skin cells.

  • Use a cotton ball to apply fresh lemon juice around your eyes. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash off with cool water. Repeat this daily.
  • You can mix lemon in many other mixtures to increase its effectiveness. Mix one tbsp. of lemon juice with 2 spoon of tomato juice or cucumber juice

8. Cold Milk

Milk contains lactic acid, amino acids, proteins, antioxidants and enzymes which aids in smoothness, thickness, and firmness of the skin. It also softens skin and reduces puffiness. Coldness constricts the blood vessels under the eyes and help in reducing eye puffiness and dark circles.

Soak the cotton eye pad in cold milk and leave it in the eye for around 8-10 minutes. Wash off with cool water. Repeat daily.

9. Turmeric

Turmeric has curcumin which has anti-aging, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which help to reduce inflammation, clear pigmentation and minimize the dark circles. It makes the eyes smoother and softer.

Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder and pineapple juice and make a paste. Apply it to the affected area and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Repeat daily.

10. Honey

Honey contains natural bleaching property and anti-inflammatory properties which helps to reduce blemishes as well as pigmentation. It is good anti-microbial which improves blood circulation. It acts as a great moisturizer which promotes skin cells growth and it also helps in the collagen formation.

Apply a thin layer of honey around the eye and massage for few minutes. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash off with water. You can apply in the night and wash next morning. Repeat it daily.
