As summer approaches, lots of dermatological issues follow us. The most common issue is skin problems, oily skin and oily hairs. Skin produces oil to protect itself from dirt and to keep itself moisturized. But it is not always good, sometimes it produces too much oil and face looks too shiny. To avoid this we can take some measures and have healthier facial skin. Here are 10 tips to follow for oil free skin.



1. Milk

Milk has healing properties; especially milk of magnesia is highly beneficial. Milk of magnesia can help combat oily skin which helps to create fairer, smoother skin in the process. It can help prevent irritations and blemishes before they start.

Simply soak a cotton ball in the milk and wipe the face twice a day. When it gets dried, wash off using water. Repeat daily.

2. Honey

Honey has humectant properties which moisturize the skin without making it too oily. It also has antiseptic properties which help to get rid of pimples and acne and prevent from coming back as well. It keeps the skin healthy and prevents aging.

  • Mix 1 tbsp. honey with 2 tbsp. of finely ground almond and ½ teaspoon of lemon juice. Use this scrub gently and wash with lukewarm water.
  • Mix 3 tbsp. of honey with ½ tsp. sea salt or sugar. Massage your face with this scrub and wash with lukewarm water.

3. Rose water

Rose water has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties which help to clean oil from the face. It also helps to maintain the optimum pH balance of the skin and helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. This is the best cleanser and it nourishes the skin deeply.

Dab cotton drenched in rose water on your face and wipes the dirt off. You can also mix lemon and honey in it and leave for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

4. Tomato

Tomato juice tightens the opened pores and removes the excess oil from skin due to its cooling, clarifying and astringent properties. It has natural oil-absorbing acids in it help get rid of excess oil.

Cut tomato into half and rub it in your skin. Or you can make tomato paste and apply it. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash off with water and pat dry.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contains anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-bacterial properties. It absorbs the oil and controls the acne by unclogging the pores and removing the dead skin cells. It leaves your skin fresh and shiny.

Cut the aloe vera and get the transparent gel in the bowl. Mash the gel as best as you can and apply on the face. Keep it for 10-15 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. Do this daily.



6. Cucumber

Cucumber has cooling, astringent and soothing properties which is very beneficial for oily skin. It is also rich in vitamins A and E, magnesium and potassium.

  • Cut the thick slices of cucumber and rub them in your face. Leave it till it dry and wash off.
  • Mix cucumber juice and lime juice. Apply it in your face and leave for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat this daily.

7. Vinegar

Both white and apple cider vinegar are good to exfoliate skin and balance the hormones responsible for overproduction of oil. It is one of the best face wash for oily skin by controlling oily facial skin.

Mix 1 tbsp. of vinegar and 2 spoon of water. Apply in the face using a cotton ball and leave for 5-7 minutes. Wash off and pat dry. Repeat this daily.

8. Yogurt

Yogurt contains natural astringent which nourishes the skin both from outside and within. Not only this, it contains lactic acid which helps to exfoliate the skin and absorbs excess oil from the face. Because of lactic acid, it not only kills some bacteria but also restores pH balance of the skin and prevents the problem of acne.

  • Apply one tbsp. of plain yogurt properly over your face. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with water.
  • Mix 1tbsp. of yogurt with 1 tbsp. of honey and apply in your face. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

9. Apple

Apples are rich in fiber, vitamin C, and Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) which tone, soften and moisturize the skin. The malic acid in it helps to exfoliate dead skin cell and absorbs excess oil from the skin’s surface. It also has mild antiseptic, astringent, and soothing properties.

  • Grate or mash half apple and apply it on your skin. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
  • Mix one tbsp. of mashed or grated apple with lemon juice and yogurt to make a paste. Apply in the face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with cool water.

10. Egg white

Egg white is rich in vitamins especially vitamin A and enzymes which help to clear off acne and shrink large pores. It dry out skin blemishes as well as tone and tighten up oily skin.

Whip one egg white and add lemon juice in it. Mix it well and apply the mixture on your face. Leave for 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.  Do this twice a week.

11. Fullers Earth mask

Clay masks reduce greasiness, draw out impurities and help tone your skin. It refines pores by cleaning them from stale makeup, dead cells, dirt etc.

Take 3-4 tbsp. of fuller’s earth and add rosewater or plain water to make a paste. Apply the paste on your face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash thoroughly with lukewarm water. Repeat once a week.
